Sharing a family home, in the way that often happens in small B&Bs, is to gain an insight into Scottish family life. It’s also informal, hospitable and an economical way of seeing the country.

However, strict definitions aside, the important element is that you are in someone’s home, though the vast majority of bedrooms will have a private bathroom and most will have tea/coffee making facilities.You will probably share a lounge with other guests and you may be offered tea and home-bakes as a kind of late evening refreshment. If not, then there is always the traditional Scottish breakfast to enjoy. Overall, the experience will be warm, friendly and easy on the wallet.
