Swimming Pools in Scotland
Scotland has an excellent choice of swimming pools, often part of the local authority funded leisure facility to be found in many Scottish towns and communities and used by visitor and resident alike. Several are very modern and in addition to the pool itself (usually at least 20m, often larger), feature fitness suites, sauna, spa, solarium and other lifestyle facilities – in effect, well-equipped leisure centres or community centres that are open to visitors. Other pools especially emphasise the fun element with the addition of wave machines and flumes.
Pool facilities can be found throughout Scotland, from Shetland to Galloway. Another category of swimming pool which is also easy to find are those that are part of many hotels’ leisure facilities. Finally, there are still some outdoor (usually heated) swimming pools or "lidos" that have survived from a much earlier age of "health and beauty" preoccupations – for example at Gourock or Stonehaven.
