Broadmeadows was the first SYHA youth hostel, opened in 1931. Set in the historic Borders, there's plenty to see. Visit the ruins of Newark Castle, Yarrow Kirk. The private museum of Selkirk depicts a bygone age. Walkers can go by the Southern Upland Way (1 1/4 miles north of the hostel) via the Minchmuir Road to Traquair House, museum & brewery. Bowhill House is nearby and there's good fishing and pony trekking available as well as some very scenic cycle routes.
