Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve (SNH)

Home > Things to See and Do > Attractions > Nature Reserves > Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve (SNH)

This beautiful reserve stretches from the shores of Loch Maree, up through ancient pinewoods with some birch, juniper and holly, to the grey quartzite screes of Beinn Eighe (1010m). A stronghold of the pine marten the reserve also holds red deer. Golden eagle breed here as do Scottish crossbill, redpoll, siskin and golden crest.

Two waymarked trails start from the Coire Leitre car park, 4 miles north west of Kinlochewe. The woodland trail follows a mile long route through the lower woodland. The more strenuous mountain trail, 4 miles, climbs up above the treeline and offers superb views east to Slioch and west to Beinn Eighe itself.

Visitor centre, picnic sites and basic camp site. Reserve leaflet and trail guides available.
