Bemersyde Moss (SWT)

Home > Things to See and Do > Attractions > Nature Reserves > Bemersyde Moss (SWT)

A 'kettlehole' formed at the end of the last Ice Age, this shallow loch and marsh, has one of the biggest colonies of black-headed gulls in Scotland. Over 15,000 pairs of gulls breed here. Black-necked grebes also breed. In winter there are significant numbers of wigeon and greylag geese, tufted duck, teal, pochard, shoveler and goldeneye can also be seen. Best time to visit May - August for black-headed gulls, October to March for wintering wildfowl.

Car park and hide on southern edge of loch.
