Caerlaverock National Nature Rerserve

Home > Things to See and Do > Attractions > Nature Reserves > Caerlaverock National Nature Rerserve

This superb reserve, with many hides, an observatory and observation hides offers some of the best wildfowl viewing opportunities in Britain. The main attraction is the large numbers of wintering pink-footed and barnacle geese. They arrive from early October onwards and are present until April. Some 300 whooper swans overwinter here as well as a few bewick swans. There are also good numbers of wigeon, teal, mallard and pintail, with some shoveler and gadwall. Most can be watched at close range.

Best October to March.
