The most elaborate Z-plan castle in Scotland, it was completed in 1636 and was the masterpiece of two great families of master masons, Bell and Leiper. The armorial panel high on the north side of the castle is signed 'I Bel'. The striking simplicity of the great hall and the stout walls do much to evoke the atmosphere of past centuries.
The castle contains many Fraser family portraits and fine 18th-and 19th-century carpets, curtains and bed hangings. The historic walled garden features shrubs, flowers, wall-trained fruit trees and vegetables.
Woodland walks, adventure playground, shop & and courtyard cafe, plant sales area.
