Fasque House

Home > Things to See and Do > Attractions > Historic Attractions > Castles & Stately Homes > Fasque House

This castellated mansion built in 1809, was subsequently bought by John Gladstone, one time owner of slave sugar plantations in the West Indies. Fasque was a favourite residence of his son, W. E. Gladstone, the four-times Prime Minister. The house, parts of which are little changed from its Victorian heyday, is still the family home of his descendents.

Downstairs there is a substantial servants quarters with a great kitchen, laundry, bakery and buttery. Upstairs there is a magnificent drawing room, a library full of Gladstone’s books, and a superb Victorian bathroom.
