Loch Ruthven (RSPB)

Home > Things to See and Do > Attractions > Nature Reserves > Loch Ruthven (RSPB)

Fringed by sedges and birchwood this beautiful loch is the most important site in Britain for the rare Slavonian grebe. Up to ten pairs breed here and are present from late April to early September.

Common and black-headed gulls also nest here. Ospreys are seen regularly. The area is good for black grouse and on early mornings in spring they can be watched displaying at their nearby lek.

An excellent lochside observation hide is reached by a 1.5 mile trail.
