This large estate at the heart of the Cairngorms National Park includes four of the five highest mountains in Britain. The arctic-alpine plateau is an important area for breeding dotterel. In the corries and on the higher slopes ptarmigan are plentiful, though difficult to see. This is one of the few places in Britain where snow buntings breed.
In the glens there are areas of magnificent native Scots pine woodland. Here you may see black grouse, capercaillie, Scottish crossbill and red squirrel.
Car park at Lin of Dee, excellent range of trails. Guided walks.
