The National Library of Scotland is Scotland's foremost general research library and the world's leading repository for the printed and manuscript record of Scotland's history and culture. It currently holds over 7 million printed items, around 120,000 manuscripts and 1.6 million maps.

Reading rooms open all year, Monday to Friday 10am – 8pm, Saturdays 10am – 12.30pm. Exhibition Hall open June to October only, Monday to Saturday 10.00am - 5.00pm, Sunday 2pm – 5pm. Shop open all year, Moday to Friday 10am – 8.15pm, Saturdays 9.30am – 12.45pm.
