Tankerness House was the town house of the Baikies of Tankerness, one of Orkney's principal land-owning families for more than 300 years. The Baikie Drawing-room contains their furniture and paintings. The Baikie Library illustrates the tastes of an island laird in the late 18th / early 19th centuries.

Major collections of archaeology and social history vividly introduce the life and culture of Orkney over more than 5,000 years.

There are also temporary exhibitions and new exhibits on display. The house has beautiful gardens with unlimited public access.
