Banks In almost every town in Scotland you’ll find a branch of at least one of the main banks: Bank of Scotland; Royal Bank of Scotland; Clydesdale Bank and Lloyds TSB. They are usually open Monday – Friday between 9.00am and 5.00pm with some city centre branches open on a Saturday morning.

Currency The Scottish banks: Bank of Scotland, Royal Bank of Scotland and the Clydesdale Bank issue their own notes in all denominations. These bank notes differ in design to English notes and are legal tender throughout the UK.
Cash Machines All towns and larger villages have cash machines as do the bigger supermarkets and service stations.
Credit Cards Almost all hotels, stores, shops, restaurants and larger attractions accept credit cards. The smaller guest houses, B&Bs and some rural campsites are unlikely to accept cards.
Tax Refunds Value Added Tax (VAT) at 17.5% is charged on most goods and services. Non EU–visitors can reclaim the tax at stores participating in Foreign Exchange Tax Free Shopping.
To obtain a refund you will have to complete a form and show your passport. The form has to be handed over to Customs and Excise as you leave the UK.
