Golf In and Around Edinburgh

Home > Where to Go > Regions > Edinburgh > Edinburgh - Get Active > Capital Golf

Edinburgh is one of Scotland’s top golfing destinations. It has some 20 golf courses within its boundaries and is within easy reach of East Lothian with its many superb links.

Golf has been played in and around the City of Edinburgh for over 400 years. In 1567, Mary Queen of Scots played at Musselburgh Links, now the oldest surviving 9-hole golf course in the world. In 1744 the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers produced the first rules of golf. While Fife lays claim to golf’s historic heart, Edinburgh was just as influential.

Today, you can enjoy the delights of Edinburgh whilst travelling out to Fife or East Lothian for golf. But it is equally relevant to stay and play in the city. Royal Burgess and Bruntsfield Links are two of the most renowned courses within the city boundaries but there are many other superb venues. Braid Hills No 1, Duddingston, Baberton and Kings Acre are some of the best courses all within minutes of the city’s centre.
