Gaelic Culture & Language in Skye & Lochalsh

Home > Where to Go > Regions > Skye & Lochalsh > Gaelic

The Gaelic language has, as part of its heritage, a creative tradition of music, song and poetry little known to most of the other inhabitants of the United Kingdom.

There are many Gaelic native speakers on Skye, as well as venues where Gaelic can be heard in song. Just as important, there is also Sabhal Mor Ostaig. This is a Scotland’s only Gaelic college, which helps keep the Gaelic heritage alive by way of a variety of courses on both the spoken word and the music.
