Sleat - Garden of Skye

Home > Where to Go > Regions > Skye & Lochalsh > Skye & Lochalsh - See & Do > Garden of Skye

Sleat, Skye’s south-west pointing peninsula, is sometimes called the ‘Garden of Skye’, because of the comparative richness of the landscape.

This prevailing greenness is well-seen, for example, around Ord on the west side of the peninsula. Here, the extensive woodlands and lush fields owe their existence to a limestone outcrop (the southernmost of a line which runs all the way to Durness in Sutherland). At places such as Tarskavaig and numerous other points along the coast - for example, ruined Dunskaith Castle - there are superb views north-west to the Cuillins.
