Coach, train, ferry, plane plus some idiosyncrasies, including the Postbus, combine to make ‘remoteness’ in Scotland only a state of mind. Coach travel is fairly comprehensive, the ferry network excellent, and some fine sections of the scenic western seaboard are best seen from the train.
