From 21st-century ’boutique’ and trendy city-centre hotels to wood-panelled, country-house style accommodation, the hotel choice in Scotland is certainly wide-ranging.

Scotland’s hotels are certainly varied in character. Many of them, for instance, will not have started off as hotels. There are hotels which were once private shooting lodges, country houses, castles, lighthouses and even former railway stations.

Some are part of a chain with international links, others are small family businesses. At the top end, some will have pools or spas, nearly all will have bars or lounges, including, especially in the country, the everyday public bar – the real place to meet the locals.

With such a well-developed tourism industry in Scotland, you can be sure you’ll find exactly the right hotel to suit your taste and budget.
