Isle of Gigha

Home > Where to Go > Regions > Argyll & Bute > Argyll & Bute - See & Do > Argyll & Bute - The Islands of Argyll > Isle of Gigha

Basking in the soft airs of the west, green and lush Gigha is a classic get-away-from-it all, gently-paced, destination.

This small island, only six miles long, lies parallel to the coast of Kintyre, in a sheltered spot with a gentle microclimate of its own. Visit the island’s Achamore Gardens, where rare rhododendrons and camellias thrive in the shelter of the woodlands.

A favoured spot with standing stones and cairns Gigha is noted for its sense of tranquillity, its gentle contours and little coves and beaches.

A community buy-out in 2002 gave the island an opportunity to improve its economic outlook, with, for example, housing improvements and craft units part of a plan for its future well-being.
