Golf in Lothians & Borders

Home > Where to Go > Regions > Lothians & Borders > Lothians & Borders - Get Active > Great for Golf

The Lothians and Borders are one of Scotland’s most famous golfing venues, the coast has a wealth of links courses including world famous Muirfield. Inland are superb championship courses.

Of all of Scotland’s key golfing regions, East Lothian, just a few miles east of Edinburgh, is one of the most compact. Within a stretch of 25 miles along the southern shores of the Forth Estuary are some of Scotland’s most notable golf courses. Muirfield, also known as the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, is pivotal to golf in this area but its near neighbours including Gullane, North Berwick and Dunbar are also exceptional adherents to the traditions of links golf.

West Lothian is less lauded but there are many good courses on this side of the City of Edinburgh including Dalmahoy’s famous East Course and West Calder.

The Scottish Borders were known for their friendly, family-oriented 9-hole tracks but all that has changed over the past two decades. With two superb championship layouts at the Roxburghe and Cardrona as well as many extended courses upgrading their facilities, the Borders now represent an exciting golf destination in their own right.
