Golf Courses in Orkney

Home > Where to Go > Regions > Orkney > Orkney - Get Active > Golf

Visitors can enjoy the special challenges of the Orkney game on three very different courses. All operate a turn-up-and-play policy with clubs for hire.

The short, 18-hole, shore-side course at Stromness can be severely testing, open to the wind that can rampage down the channel between Hoy and the main island. The greens are small, upturned saucers that are very difficult to hold with lots of links-like undulations. There are 7 Par 3’s on this course. Orkney Golf Club’s heights overlooking the main town of Kirkwall are completely different providing a good variety. The course is more parkland/healthland in nature, quite flat and easy to walk. It is the wind that makes all the difference here.

The new golf course South Ronaldsay, a 9-holer built by two golf enthusiasts, is very interesting with some special water hazards.
