Castles are well-represented in Skye and Lochalsh - in a sometimes stormy tale of warfare and rebuilding over the centuries.
Perched on its rocky island, 14th century Eilean Donan is one of Scotland’s most spectacular castles. Armadale Castle was once the main residence of the MacDonalds and is now the fragmented centrepiece of a visitor complex, the Armadale Castle Gardens and the Museum of the Isles. Dunvegan Castle remains the ancient seat of the MacLeods of Dunvegan and Harris, as it has been since the 14th century.
