River Fishing
There are a number of small salmon and sea trout rivers on Skye the best of which are the Drynoch, Kilmartin, Varagill and Snizort. The latter river is mostly owned by the Skeabost Country House Hotel. Like the others it is a spate river and therefore fishes best after rainfall when migratory fish run upstream to find refuge in some of its deeper pools. There are 12 single rod beats fishing with fly or spinners. The River Carron and River Shiel of Duich both produce sea trout and salmon from June onwards. There are lots of small rivers and burns throughout the area that can produce occasional sport with brown trout and some sea trout when the water is high.

Loch Fishing
Set against the magnificent Cullin mountains the lochs of Skye offer a spectacular environment. Most of them are managed by Portree Angling Association. The famous Storr Lochs, Leathan and Fada, produce superb brown trout for boat and bank anglers. The clutch of hill lochs under the associations wing includes Mealt, Cleat, Cleap, Leum na Luirginn, Hasco, Lancaig, Dubhar-sgoth and Crocsgil. Some of them require a fair step across the moors to reach and tackle the typically small but hard fighting resident brown trout.

Sea Angling
Skye has a massive length of convoluted coastline much of which is inaccessible and dangerous cliffs but there is still more than plenty of fishing marks available for the angler who is prepared to hike to find them. Pollack are common and fishing over the reefs and drop-offs, often close to the shore you will normally encounter sport with fish of between 3 to 6lb. Coalfish, wrasse, ling and codling can also be caught over rough ground. Dabs, dogfish, gurnard and thornback are found on the banks. Mackerel are common in summertime and they are amazingly powerful fish on light spinning or fly tackle.
