Stirling Castle - A Palace Fortress

Home > Where to Go > Regions > Loch Lomond, Stirling & the Trossachs > Stirling > Stirling - Great Attractions > Palace Fortress

To this day, Stirling Castle preserves its impregnable air, rising out of what were once marshlands at the lowest bridging point of the River Forth.

Though extensively altered after King James Vl of Scotland decamped to the English court, something of the romance of the Stuart monarchs still clings to the palace complex. The Great Hall is thought to be Scotland’s finest mediaeval secular building and has recently undergone a spectacular restoration.
