A state of the art kitchen of 300 plus years ago has just been installed in Argyll’s Lodging, the magnificent townhouse on the upper approaches to Stirling Castle.
To ensure that everything was accurate to the last detail Historic Scotland called on a team of cooks specialising in cookery from earlier centuries. Traditional craftsmen were then commissioned to make everything from crockery to pewter plates and brass pots and pans.
Sheena Garden, Historic Scotland Interpretation Officer, said: “We really wanted to give visitors a glimpse of what the kitchens would have been like in the days when the earl and countess of Argyll were living there and played host to the most important people in the land.
It adds a whole extra dimension for visitors by showing what a huge operation it was to cook and cater for a wealthy and important family that would frequently be entertaining visitors of all kinds from duke to foreign dignitaries.”
