Visit the Am Politician, the pub on Eriskay, to see a bottle of ‘Polly’ whisky and other items from this favourite wreck.
The wrecked vessel, the real-life SS Politician, became SS Cabinet Minister, while Eriskay, where the incident took place, became Todday. Compton Mackenzie, the author of the original book, was also involved in the film which, almost uniquely for those days, was filmed completely on location, indoors and out, on the island of Barra and released by Ealing Studios to great acclaim in 1949.
