Colonsay

A beautiful island with many superb sandy beaches, Colonsay is well known for its wildlife. It is one of the few places in Britain where choughs breed, it also boasts many rare and unusual wildlflowers.

There is no shortage of things to do – good brown trout fishing, an interesting 18 holes links golf course and the almost sub-tropical Colonsay House Gardens.

Neighbouring Oronsay ‘St Oran’s Island’ is linked to Colonsay at low tide across a wide beach of shell sand. The ruined priory there, c 1380, with its delightful cloisters, and ancient celtic cross is superb. There is a range of accommodation, a brewery and a bookshop.
