The largest native Scots pinewood in Britain. Breeding birds include the Scottish crossbill, crested tit, capercaillie, black grouse and osprey. Famous for the Loch Garten Osprey Centre.

Insh Marshes National Nature Reserve (RSPB) 3 out of 5 stars
This great wetland is one of the most important natural floodplains in Europe. Many species of wader and duck nest here. In winter large flocks of whooper swans feed across the marshes. Two hides and three trails.

Rothiemurchus Forest
Superb Caledonian pine forest with many miles of trails. Rothiemurchus is one of the best places in Scotland to see crested tits, crossbills and capercallie. Bird hide at the fishery offers close-up viewing of ospreys fishing.
