One of the largest shingle and sand dune bars in Britain shelters an extensive saltmarsh. Bar-tailed godwits, oystercatchers and knots flock at high tide. Many sea ducks off shore during the winter.
This beautiful loch is the most important site in Britain for the rare Slavonian grebe. The grebes, and quite often ospreys, can be seen from the lochside hide.
An extensive area of mudflat, saltmarsh and wet grassland, from late summer to April it supports large numbers of wildfowl and wading birds. Best visited within an hour of high tide. Hide.
