Dunkeld Cathedral (HS)

This beautiful cathedral was built between 1250 and 1500. While the nave was un-roofed after the Reformation, the choir has continued in use as a church. An early Christian site, Dunkeld was sacked by the Vikings in the 9th century.

This simple 16th century church with its low roof and white walls looks like a farm steading. Inside there is a magnificent timber ceiling painted with a mixture of biblical scenes and heraldry.

Brechin Cathedral Round Tower (HS)

The tower, one of only two in Scotland, dates from the 11th century and was part of an early monastery. The cathedral fell into disrepair after the Reformation and was largely rebuilt in the early 1900s.
