A splendid residence, built in 1598 for the notorious Lawrence Bruce, half-brother of the Earl of Orkney. After being attacked and burned by Danish pirates in 1627, the castle never regained its former splendour.
This substantial castle was built in 1600 by the notorious Patrick Stewart, Earl of Orkney and Shetland. He did not long enjoy his castle, both he and his son were executed in Edinburgh in 1615.
