Isle of Coll Holiday Guide - Scotland
Not quite so green as its neighbour Tiree, the island has more rock and heather, but is still farmed with a low intensity to suit corncrakes and other birds.
The main centre of population is around Arinagour, near the ferry pier. Historically, Coll is associated with the Macleans, though it was cleared as late as the 1850s to allow settlement by Ayrshire dairy farmers.
Coll was also the inspiration for the fictional island of Struay, as featured in the children’s book series Katie Morag by author Mairi Hedderwick. Coll Nature Reserve (RSPB). For more information on how to get there, go to the Caledonian MacBrayne website.
