Great Glens of Lochaber - Scotland
Lochaber has two of Scotland’s finest glens. Glen Nevis, behind Fort William, and Glen Coe to the south.
The north side of Glen Coe is walled in by the Aonach Eagach ridge, the ‘airiest’ hillwalk on mainland Scotland. Glen Nevis similarly has the vast slope of Ben Nevis on one side, with the zig-zagging ‘tourist path’ a prominent feature.
Some rough walking brings special rewards: the Steall Falls, for example, at the head of Glen Nevis, or the Hidden Valley of Glen Coe. And while Glen Nevis has been a film setting for Braveheart, Rob Roy and Highlander, Glen Coe is associated with a true tale of treachery, told in the Glen Coe Visitor Centre.
