North Highlands of Scotland - Golf Courses
The Northern Highlands is of the most stimulating places in Britain to play a round of golf, with many varied links courses including Dornoch the ‘St Andrews of the North’
If a little longer and closer to civilisation the sublime links of Royal Dornoch would surely be on the Open rota. But perhaps its physical location is no bad thing. So-called civilisation is kept at a healthy distance while celebrities and knowledgeable holiday-makers escape to one of the most serene parts of Scotland.
There are many other great golf courses in the Northern Highlands especially along the east coast of Sutherland and into Caithness, more than enough to form an excellent touring itinerary. Fortrose & Rosemarkie and Tain are found south of the Dornoch Firth while Skibo Castle and the Carnegie golf courses are on its northern shores. Golspie and Brora lead on from Dornoch towards Wick and the superb little links course at Reay. To the northwest is one of the most enigmatic little 9-hole golf courses at Durness. Descend from Durness to the wonderful little 9-hole course at Gairloch and experience some of the best scenery the Highlands can offer. See the listing for Golf in the Northern Highlands
