The most northerly inhabited island in Britain, Unst boasts two spectacular national nature reserves, Hermaness with 100,000 breeding seabirds including a large colonies of gannets and puffins, and the bizarre ‘moonscape’ of the Keen of Hamar.
Baltasound, Unst’s capital and airport, was once the centre of the northern herring fishing industry with a seasonal population of 10,000 people. At the south of the end island is the splendid Muness Castle . To the north at Haroldswick the Unst Boat Haven offers an excellent introduction to Shetland’s unique fishing heritage.
