This beautifully restored mill with its overshot wheel, is in full working order. There are displays on local history and small craft shop.
Tingwall, Shetland, ZE1 0AQ
This church, built in 1788-1790, replaced a medieval 'steeple-kirk' with a round tower some 20m high, similar to that of Egilsay on Orkney. In the churchyard are several fine tombstones dating from the 17th and 18th centuries.

This ferry service to the Isle of Mousa offers great wildlife viewing with arctic and great skuas, black guillemots, arctic terns, porpoises and killer whales being regularly seen. Special evening storm petrel trips.

This spectacular, inhabited island, with the second highest (370m) sea cliffs in Britain, holds great numbers of breeding seabirds including puffins, guillemots, Manx shearwaters, storm and Leach's petrels and a small colony of gannets.

The finest broch in Scotland it has survived for two thousand years virtually intact. Visitors can still climb to the top by a narrow stair within its walls.

Steatite or soapstone is soft and easy to carve into bowls. From prehistoric times onwards vessels of various sizes or shapes were cut out of the rock face here. The quarrying marks can still be clearly seen.

This square enclosure on the island of Noss was built by the Marquis of Londonderry in 1870 for the breeding of Shetland ponies. They were required for use in his coal mines in County Durham.

Whalsay, Shetland, ZE2
This 18th century merchant's booth, with its own pier, has displays on the Hanseatic trade and the history of Whalsay. From this harbour Shetland merchants once exported dried fish to Bergen and various Baltic Ports.

A wealth of birds breed here, including 90% of the British population of red-necked pharalopes. These fascinating waders can be seen from the hide at the Mires of Funzie.

This almost lunar landscape of apparently barren serpentine scree supports a unique and fascinating collection of plants.

Medieval church dating from 12th until 1785. Inside are tombstones of two Dutch merchants from Bremen. The stone for Segebad Detken, who died in 1573, records that he traded in Shetland for 52 years.
