St Andrews West Sands
St Andrews
One of Scotland’s most popular and famous beaches this superb 2 mile stretch of sand is just a short walk from the centre of town. To reach it, follow the signs to the golf courses and carry on past the new club house. The road with its broad grass car park gives easy access to the beach along almost its whole length. The hard flat sand on the lower beach is great for walking and running on – it was here that the opening sequence for the Oscar winning Chariots of Fire was shot. The beach is well known as one of the best sites in Scotland for kite surfing. Facilities include a café and picnic area.
Dog restrictions apply to the section of the beach nearest to the town during the summer months.
Seaside award. Public Toilets.
