Mingulay Beach
Isle of Barra
A superb beach on one of the most beautiful islands in the Outer Hebrides, it can be reached by charter boat from Castlebay, Barra. Puffins have their burrows on the slope above the rocks where you land. The birds would have been on the menu for the people who lived here but now breed undisturbed. The last inhabitants left in 1912. Their sand filled houses can be seen at the top of the beach.
