Spynie Palace (HS)

Nr. Elgin

Spynie Palace was for five centuries the residence of the bishops of Moray. More of a castle than a palace, the Spynie is one of the largest surviving mediaeval bishop's houses in Scotland. The bishops offered hospitality to many important guests including royalty – James I, James II and James IV all stayed here. The site is dominated by a massive tower built by Bishop David Stewart in 1462-77. From the top there are spectacular views over Spynie Loch. Shop, picnic area.

Opening Times

April - September: every day 9.30am – 6.30pm. October - March: Saturday and Sunday 9.30am – 4.30pm.
