Scotland's most famous explorer and missionary was born here in Shuttlerow in 1813. Today the 18th-century tenement commemorates David Livingstone's life and work. His childhood home - consisting of just one room - remains much as it would have done, in Livingstone's day and gives the visitor an insight into the living conditions endured by industrial workers in the 19th century.The rest of the museum tells the story of Livingstone's explorations in Africa and is home to a wide range of his personal belongings and travel aids, including diaries, navigational equipment and even the famous red shirt he was wearing when he met the journalist H M Stanley.Shop, café & children's adventure playground.

April to December, Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday 12.30-5pm.
