Burns Monument
More than a monument, this small temple was erected in 1831 in memory of Robert Burns 1759 -1792, Scotland’s national poet. Originally the building housed a white marble statue of Burns. This was removed in the mid 1800s as soot from the gasworks below was damaging the marble. The statue can be seen today in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.
