Grassmarket
Edinburgh
The largest open space in the Old Town, the Grassmarket was the site of a weekly market for cattle, horses and sheep, and many public executions. Until 1785, one of the town’s gallows stood here. Hangings were a great public spectacle and owners of houses overlooking the gibbet could command a handsome price for the view from their windows.
easy way to organise your trip to Scotland.
