This 16th century Town House, the oldest house on the Royal Mile, now houses an exhibition about its two most famous residents. John Knox, leader of the reformation in Scotland and James Mossman, goldsmith to Mary, Queen of Scots.

As you make your way around the three floors of the House, with its original dark wood panelling and heavy oak beamed ceilings, stop for a moment and imagine what it was like with only candles for light and the heat from the massive fire place making little impact on the cold thick stone.
