Milne’s Court

The first open court or square of its type in Edinburgh, it was built in 1692 by Robert Mylne, Master Mason to the King. It replaced blocks of dilapidated tenements divided by narrow ill-ventilated alleyways or closes. The court soon became a fashionable place to live. Today it is a university hall of residence.
