Hutchesons' Hall (NTS)

One of the most elegant buildings in Glasgow's city centre, Hutchesons' Hall was built in 1802-5 to a design by David Hamilton. It incorporates on its frontage the statues of the founders of Hutchesons' Hospital, George and Thomas Hutcheson. In 1639-41 they built a home here for elderly tradesmen and orphaned boys.A major reconstruction in 1876 by John Baird heightened the Hall and provided an impressive staircase. The interior is hung with portraits of Glasgow worthies. Visitor centre and information room with a 10 minute audio-visual presentation on 'Glasgow's Merchant City'. The Hall is available for hire for concerts, exhibitions, dinners, small conferences and other functions. Shop.
