Fair Isle South Lighthouse
Built in 1892 this was the most dangerous lighthouse to be stationed at during the Second World War. It was bombed by German aircraft in December 1941 and January 1942. On the first occasion the wife of the Assistant Lightkeeper was killed, on the second occasion the wife and daughter of the Principal Lighthouse Keeper and a soldier were killed. The present buildings are operated as guest house.
