Arthur’s Seat 251m (823ft)
Holyrood Park is an oasis of wild country in the heart of the city. Its rocky summit, Arthurs’s Seat and its Salisbury Crags were formed by a volcano some 350 million year ago. It was here that James Hutton – the ‘Father of Modern Geology’, found evidence to support his theory on the age of the Earth.
