The City's fine art collection consists of around 4,000 works of Scottish arts: paintings, water colours, drawings, prints, photographs, sculptures and tapestries, including works by McTaggart, Fergusson, Peploe and Eardley. The City Art Centre's licensed cafe can provide you with a cup of coffee or a three course meal.

Spirit of Air: Inscriptions by Lizzie Farey - Sat 20 Nov 2010 - Sun 27 Feb 2011
Spirit of Air presents a new body of expressive willow works by one of Scotland’s highest-profile practitioners. Lizzie’s skilful manipulation of willow, hazel, birch and ash is evident in these pieces that have evolved from the baskets and sculptures which she was associated with in the past.
Ian Hamilton Finlay - Sat 20 Nov 2010 - Sun 6 Mar 2011 - Hamilton Finlay (1925-2006) was one of the major figures of 20th century Scottish art.Poet, publisher, sculptor and gardener, he is best known for Little Sparta, his stunning garden at Stonypath in Lanarkshire. On show are two recently acquired stone sculptures, displayed alongside prints by the artist already in the collection, a group of photographs of Little Sparta taken by Martyn Greenhalgh in 1988 and works from the city’s collection by artists who explore similar themes to Finlay.
In Our Own Image: Representing the Human Form Now – 9 January 2011 - Until 9 January, we’re still exhibiting In Our Own Image, works drawn from our collection of Scottish art as homage to artists’ preoccupation with the human figure, including works by John Duncan, Dorothy Johnstone, and Peter Howson.

Monday - Saturday 10 am - 5 pm, Sunday (July and August) 12 noon - 5 pm. Extended opening hours for major temporary exhibitions.
