Old Man of Hoy, Orkney

The best-known of Scotland’s sea-stacks it got its name when it was an arch with two legs. In the early 19th century one leg collapsed, leaving a single 137m (450ft) stack. It was first climbed in 1966 – an ascent that took three days.
