Loch Gruinart (RSPB)

Bridgend

This well known reserve on the north west coast of Islay includes Loch Gruinart - a shallow sea loch, mud-flats, marshland, sand dunes, farmland and moorland.Famous for its wintering Greenland barnacle and white-fronted geese, the reserve is exciting all year round. Shovelers, redshank, lapwings, snipe and corncrakes all breed here. Hen harriers nest on the moor and golden eagles and peregrines hunt all year.Visitor centre with close-up wildlife viewing via remote video cameras, two trails, an excellent observation hide, and guided walks programme.

Opening Times

Reserve open at all times. Visitor centre open daily: 10 am – 5 pm April to October, and 10 am – 4 pm November to March
