Loch Gruinart (RSPB)

Bushmills, Isle of Islay

This well known reserve on the north west coast of Islay includes Loch Gruinart - a shallow sea loch, mud-flats, marshland, farmland and moorland.Famous for its wintering Greenland barnacle and white-fronted geese, the reserve is exciting all year round. Shoveler ducks, redshank, lapwings, snipe and corncrakes all breed here. Hen harriers nest on the moor and golden eagles and peregrines hunt all year.Visitor centre, two trails, excellent observation hides and guided walks programme.

Opening Times

Reserve open at all times. Visitor centre open daily: 10 am – 5
except Christmas Day and New Years Day
Guided walks April-October

Free entry to reserve but small charge on guided walks and events.
